Have you ever interacted with someone who believes that the Bible depicts a flat, stationary earth? Or perhaps encountered a meme asserting that “the Bible contains 200+ flat-earth verses”? Or have you seen someone on social media quote verses like Job 38:14, Psalm 96:10, or Joshua 10:12-13 as “proof” that the Bible indicates a flat, unmoving earth? If you have, you’re not alone. These allegations proliferate online and in myriad other digital formats, coming not only from skeptics and critics of the Bible but also from numerous professing Christians who claim allegiance to it. But do these verses mean what they think they mean?

We have been examining the claims of a flat-earth advocate and found so far that all the evidence is consistent with a spherical earth with a radius of 3959 miles, and is inconsistent with a flat earth. We will continue to analyze Jeff’s claims (in purple font) below, along with my response in black.

We have been exploring the claims of a flat-earth advocate named Jeff. So far, his claims have not withstood mathematical scrutiny. The evidence we have explored so far has been completely consistent with a round earth, and refutes a flat earth. Here we continue to examine Jeff’s claims.

In this article, we will deal with the claims of a flat-earth advocate named Jeff. Jeff is a friend of a friend of mine, who objected to some of the proofs I gave that demonstrate the earth is spherical. Since Jeff’s claims have been refuted elsewhere, I agreed to answer them but only if I could post them publicly on this website so that others may benefit. Jeff graciously agreed.

In 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first manmade object to achieve earth orbit. People all over the world could see this satellite as it passed overhead. Sputnik was equipped with radio antennas to broadcast a series of pulses which could be detected by amateur radios. In the years that followed, many other spacecraft – some manned, some unmanned – were placed in earth orbit. Many of these took photographs of the earth. For the first time, human beings were able to see pictures of the earth from above. These pictures confirmed what the Bible had taught millennia earlier; the earth is round and hangs upon nothing (Job 26:7,10).
