Description
You may have noticed that Christians promote keeping some of the commandments in Scripture but not others. We all agree with “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). But we do not offer animal sacrifices as required in Leviticus 4:27-28. What about passages indicating that you may not take a bird and her eggs (Deuteronomy 22:6), the command to build a fence around your roof (Deuteronomy 22:8), the command to circumcise male children on the eighth day (Leviticus 12:3), or the command to abstain from “unclean” foods? What is the purpose of such commandments and are they binding today? The answers may surprise you. Is the government required to obey God’s commands, or should it be religiously neutral? Finally, what do we do when the government requires us to disobey a biblical law? There are many opinions on these issues. But what does the Bible itself teach?
